Gin, produced around the world, comes in two basic styles: London Dry, austere and prominently featuring juniper, and a more aromatic, herbal, or floral version. For a martini and perhaps even with tonic, it’s the London dry you’ll want and, more specifically, this alluringly subtle Brazilian gin, Amázzoni, newly available in the United States. It leans on botanicals like Brazil nut, Victoria regia (a type of water lily) and cocoa. The distillery is on an 18th century coffee farm in the Paraíba Valley northwest of Rio de Janeiro. The gin is excellent pure, perhaps with a few açaí berries added for an Amazonian touch in the garnish.
